I think this is the first Easter weekend where I've wanted to give Oliver the idea that it was a special day. I wanted to dye eggs with him, have him do an Easter egg hunt, and give him a basket full of treats (not necessarily of the sugar variety, but maybe little toys and things like that) Well, I guess two out of three isn't bad. It was kind of a peculiar (in a good way!) weekend and the Easter Bunny(s) were low on funds. So no Easter basket from us anyway, but his Grandma did give him a lovely basket with new sandals for the summer. Well I guess it was an Easter bucket. Let's face it, a bucket will be more practical and is just as effective :)
I wanted to have the eggs dyed before Easter morning, but I'm sort of disorganized and a perpetual procrastinator. Plus there was a hide and seek party on Saturday night. How could we pass that up? So when we did sit down to dye the eggs on Sunday morning I realized I'd also forgotten to a) get vinegar to make the eggs vibrant and b) think of what containers we'd use to dunk the eggs in. As you can see there is an assortment of egg dye holder thingies. Small sippy cups, a top to a candle, soup cups, a small tupperware container...so long as they hold dye right? Well mostly except the candle top kept spilling green dye as it was slightly wobbly.
The important thing was that Oliver had a blast dying the eggs. He keeps asking to do it again but I don't think I want that egg smell in our house more than once a year, unless I'm making delicious egg salad with the eggs. It lingers and it smells like stinky farts. You know it, and I know it.

We then had a lovely Easter dinner with most of our family(s). Afterward, Josh and I hid the eggs outside in our backyard. We hid most of them in plain view where Oliver could see them. Josh being Josh, hid one up in our tree. It was pretty cute when he lifted Oliver up to find that one though. When all of the eggs were found, Julie helped Oliver hide the eggs so that Josh and I had to look for them.

sounds like it was lots of fun! and don't worry, easter bunnies don't need money to have a fun family holiday!
